The LUNAR NEW YEAR’S (SETSUBUN) SERVICE
Held on FEBRUARY 6, Sun. 10 am.
Setsubun literally means “seasonal division,” but the term usually refers to the spring Setsubun, which is properly called Risshun, and is celebrated each year on February 3rd as part of the Spring Festival.
Setsubun can be and was previously thought of as a kind of New Year’s eve and it was accompanied by a special ritual to cleanse away all the evil of the former year.
Setsubun has its origins, a Chinese custom that was introduced to Japan in the 8th century.
