Honolulu Myohoji Community Hall
To contribute to the community of Hawaii and promotion of the teaching of Buddhism, at the Honolulu Myohoji community hall was built. Honolulu Myohoji Community Hall is not an ordinary community center. It is a multipurpose hall within temple functions. Through using hall, we must serve for the people who suffer and we can educate ourself to a deeper understanding of Buddhism and daily life. That is why those who join activities at the hall are urged to participate in the services of the Honolulu Myohoji as a part of Buddhist religious training. To enter the property of the Honolulu Myohoji is to step into the sacred space of the Lotus Sutra, which is the fundamental scripture of the Nichiren Shu. That is why the statue of the Eternal Buddha of the Lotus Sutra is faced toward the temple gate. In the eyes of the Eternal Buddha all sects of Buddhism, and all religions and faiths are His manifestations that are appropriate to the time, place and understanding of each person. Moreover, all people and living things will ultimately become like Him, the existence that is pure and precious life itself, with infinite wisdom, compassion, and love.
While we believe that the fundamental practice to achieve the awareness of the Eternal Buddha is all good pursuits and learning such as the traditional cultural arts,
and martial arts too are ways that provide glimpses into the wondrousness of the Eternal Buddha, who is everywhere present and dwells within all people and things as the source of all life. It is for this reason that the Community Hall of the Honolulu Myohoji offers its space to groups in the traditional cultural and martial arts that resonate with its philosophy and to likeminded community service groups.
